Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Academic Year Fellowships

Open on a competitive basis to graduate students with research interest in French Canada
Intermediate level of proficiency in French required
$15,000 Stipend, plus a tuition waiver
50% of health insurance covered
Possibility of a semester or a year of research in French-speaking Canada
Awards available to US citizens

Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Summer Awards

Open on a competitive basis to enrolled graduate students wishing to improve or maintain their proficiency in French
Candidates must be willing to commit to a 6-week French Immersion program in the US or Canada
$2,500 stipend for room and board
Tuition is covered up to $4,000
Travel expenses defrayed up to $250
Awards available to US citizens and permanent residents
Graduate students who are not matriculating at the University of Maine can be considered for a Summer FLAS if their home institution recieves FLAS support, regardless of the language of the award.

Available to doctoral candidates engaged in research in Canadian or Canadian-American History
$11,500 Stipend, plus a tuition waiver
