Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is summer camp counselor at the New Balance Student Recreation Center. This employee’s primary responsibility is to oversee the safety and programming for campers ages 6-12 for 9 weeks of summer camp. Additionally, he or she will facilitate games and activities to enhance the camp experience for each participant. He or she will provide excellent customer service and always be attentive to campers’ needs. The person holding this position is responsible for facilitating a fun, safe and welcoming environment for participants and staff members at all times. Before employment begins they are required to achieve certifications in Professional Rescuer CPR, Standard First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator.

Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include:

• General supervision of multiple children with facilitating program rules
• Regulations, and safety concerns
• Greeting and supervising children during drop-off and pick-up
• Escorting campers to and from each program
• Assist program coordinator and director
• Plan and implement recreational activities for children
• Attend to injuries and illnesses
• Assist parents with inquiries regarding the program
• Maintain camp facilities
• Attend staff meetings and trainings
• Perform other duties as assigned

As an RAD Camp Counselor, you are expected to be a friendly, knowledgeable and vigilant representative of Campus Recreation. We expect all employees to have a positive attitude, show up for work on time, dress professionally, and perform all assigned duties in a professional manner. • Ability to operate independently within departmental standards of conduct and professional expectations
• With proper training, awareness of risk management and safety concerns
• Awareness of and appreciation for individual uniqueness and diversity
• Ability to obtain certifications in Heartsaver CPR, Standard First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator
• Commitment to student development and leadership
• Ability to work during all 9 weeks of summer camp
• Excellent customer service skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Reasonable level of physical fitness

Priority may be given to individuals with the following certification(s):

• Previous experience working with children in a summer camp setting

Position Type: – Pay Level II: $325/week
*Work Study / Work Merit: Work Study – Optional

Time Commitment: 40 hours/week during camp weeks.
Shift Days/Times: weekdays, M-F

Supervisory Responsibilities: No
