This March twelve members of SPIFFY traveled with Dr. Rick Borgman and Dr. Bob Strong to the three-day Global Asset Management Education student investment fund symposium in downtown Manhattan. There were over 1,000 students from 130 universities in attendance at the conference. UMaine’s Dylan Bousquet-Smith was invited to participate on the Alternative Assets keynote panel and was able to prepare a live question for the three panelists. Students heard presentations from numerous well-known television personalities, including Guy Adami from CNBC “Fast Money”, Ralph Acampora, and Abby Joseph Cohen. Dr. Strong gave a presentation to faculty members in attendance who were interested in establishing a student investment fund at their school. The trip was funded by a grant from the University of Maine Foundation and from several donors who have established funds to benefit the SPIFFY program.
