Undergraduate Programs - Finance

Employment opportunities in finance include financial management in business, management and non-profit organizations; commercial and investment banking; and brokerage. The major in finance focuses on three general, interrelated areas: (1) the structure and functioning of financial markets and institutions (2) the methods of financing business operations; and (3) security selection and portfolio management for both individual and institutional investors. Recent graduates have been able to advance rapidly within their initial industry choice and also have been able to shift easily in response to attractive opportunities in other institutions.

American Express; Bangor Hydro-Electric; Bath Iron Works; Boston Stock Exchange; Callaway Golf; Circuit City; CU Mortgage Services; Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein; Eastern Maine Health Care; Fidelity of Boston; General Electric; John Deere; Key Bank; Bank of America; NCR; Otis Elevator; Prudential Securities and Scudder (NY).

The Finance major requires 15 credits of upper level courses – four required and one elective.

Sample Curriculum:  Note that, although the following is a suggested curriculum, students should be aware that upper-level finance classes (not including BUA 350) are offered only once a year.  Students are responsible for the successful completion of prerequisites to upper-level courses. Taking BUA 325 in the junior year is assumed.
