Undergraduate Assurances of Learning - Syllabus Boilerplate
The Maine Business School has established six program goals. This course addresses goal (s):
1. Problem Solving: Students will demonstrate problem-solving skills, supported by appropriate quantitative and qualitative analysis
2. General Business Knowledge: Students will demonstrate a mastery of basic business theory, principles, & knowledge in core business disciplines.
3. Business Communication: Students will prepare and present effective business communications, both written and oral.
4. Teamwork: Students will understand the fundamental concepts of teamwork, and demonstrate the ability to work in teams.
5. Ethics: Students will recognize ethical components of business problems/decisions, appreciate alternate ethical viewpoints, and apply individual and organizational frameworks to resolve dilemmas.
6. Multicultural: Students will know and understand the multicultural and international issues that impact business operations in a global society.

Goal Corresponding Objectives
Goal 1 Problem Solving: Students will demonstrate problem-solving skills, supported by appropriate quantitative and qualitative analysis.
Corresponding Objectives: Students assess a business problem, choose and apply the appropriate business tool (quantitative, qualitative) necessary for concise analysis and propose suitable solutions. Students will:
- Demonstrate basic factual knowledge of business tools.
- Identify the main business problems and issues at hand using all available relevant information, suggest possible alternatives.
- Use appropriate analytical tools (qualitative & quantitative) to evaluate & propose alternative courses of action.
Goal 2 General Business Knowledge: Students will demonstrate a mastery of basic business theory, principles, & knowledge in core business disciplines.
Corresponding Objectives: Students recognize & use appropriate applications of:
- Accounting
- Economics (microeconomics, & macroeconomics)
- Management (including organizational behavior, strategy & policy)
- Quantitative business analysis (statistics & operations management)
- Information systems
- Finance
- Marketing
- Legal and social environment
Goal 3: Business communication: Students will prepare and present effective business communications, both written and oral.
Corresponding Objectives:
- Written: Students will write a business document that is well organized, free of errors and makes an effective clear point.
- Oral: Students will make a clear professional presentation of business material using current technology.
Goal 4: Teamwork: Students will understand the fundamental concepts of teamwork, and demonstrate the ability to work in teams.
Corresponding Objectives:
- Students will identify the elements in building effective teams.
- Students will articulate the team goal and their individual contributions to the team goal.
- Students will describe the significant roles and contributions of team members.
Goal 5: Ethics: Students will recognize ethical components of business problems/decisions, appreciate alternate ethical viewpoints, and apply individual and organizational frameworks to resolve dilemmas.
Corresponding Objectives:
- Students will identify several ethical frameworks for ethical analysis
- Students will depict the difference between ethical dilemmas and societal laws.
- Students will identify how corporate social responsibility relates to the interest of society.
Goal 6: Multicultural: Students will know and understand the multicultural and international issues that impact business operations in a global society.
Corresponding Objectives:
- Students will identity cultural differences that affect business communications.
- Students will identify risks associated with international operations.
- Students will identify important political, legal, and cultural issues that affect firms conducting international business.
