Recognition & Rankings - MBS Mission
The Maine Business School engages nationally recognized faculty to provide exceptional undergraduate and graduate business education, create new knowledge, and serve the business community. We prepare students for successful careers by challenging them to discover their potential, develop business skills, and act responsibly.
As a professional school in Maine’s land-grant university, the MBS is engaged in significant outreach to business and government throughout the state.
The Maine Business School, contributing to the land-grant mission of the University, primarily serves full-time, traditional undergraduate students from the State of Maine, 30% of whom are first generation college students. The graduate student population includes a large percentage of international students as well as students from Maine.
To achieve its mission, the Maine Business School will:

- Attract and retain faculty who possess excellent teaching and research skills, and professional objectives consistent with the mission of the Maine Business School.
- Encourage and support faculty scholarship relevant to the mission of the MBS and the University of Maine.
- Cultivate an appreciation of and support for diversity (race, color, religion, gender, national origin, disability, age and ancestry) among faculty, students and staff.
