Bryant Pond 4-H Camp is a leader in connecting youth to the outdoors and in providing archery and firearms hunter safety camps, and other programs, focused on traditional Maine outdoor activities.
In Maine Sports Afield campers will be immersed in a comprehensive 2 week outdoor training program designed to build on the basic skills of the archery and firearms hunter safety programs, and will include activities such as trapping education, fly-fishing for trout, spin-casting for bass, and various hunting tactics. A focus on specific hunting techniques provides the chance to learn waterfowl, turkey, moose, deer and other hunting traditions and skill sets. Learn how to hunt over a bird dog, rattle for bucks, call in ducks, or fool that cagey Tom turkey!
Professional guides, game wardens, dog handlers and outdoor enthusiasts will assist in gear selection, calling and scent tactics, and cover the rules and laws pertaining to each species.
Campers will have a chance to build a portable hunting blind, learn how to select and set traps for furbearers, fish like a pro, and set up and shoot from various tree stands and blinds. A focus on safety, ethics, and proper technique will be emphasized. During this program, trips to various camps and wildlife areas enhance the experience. A trip to a bird hunting preserve will provide opportunity to get some hands on bird hunting experience in the field.
Fishing outings will take place on the famous Upper Androscoggin River, beautiful Kezar Lake, and local trout streams and ponds.
Space is limited to 10 participants.
