Michael P. Davis, Ph.D

Dr. Michael P. Davis works closely with Dr. Alex Friess as faculty in the Brunswick Engineering Program faculty, serving as lecturer.  He comes with extensive experience in industry as a practicing engineer, in both the shipbuilding and aerospace fields.  As a senior machinery engineer with Bath Iron Works, Dr. Davis was responsible for the design and integration of the propulsion system (including main engines, shafting, and propellors) for the newest class of Navy destroyers.  While at Pratt and Whitney, he worked as a controls engineer for a new generation of commercial aircraft engines.

As a researcher, Dr. Davis has experience in the fields of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, combustion, and multi-phase flows.  The primary focus of his graduate work was in investigating aviation fuel cavitation in the fuel and hydraulic systems of the Joint Strike Fighter.

Dr. Davis received his Ph. D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 2008.  He also holds a Masters Degree from WPI in Worcester, MA (2001), and a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Notre Dame (1998).
