Fall 2012 marked the first class of Brunswick Engineering, a 2+2 program that allows students to study engineering close to home in Brunswick and finish up the last 2 years in civil, mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering at UMaine. This coming fall 2013, we will welcome our second incoming class and are still taking applications. Please attend and learn more about this innovative program. In addition, learn about other pathways from SMCC.

Two pathways to an engineering degree in Maine at Brunswick Landing
The University of Maine (UMaine) and Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) have partnered to provide two unique pathways to start your education for a career in engineering: SMCC Pre-Engineering and UMaine Brunswick Engineering. Both programs are available at the SMCC Midcoast Campus at Brunswick Landing.
UMaine’s Brunswick Engineering Program (BEP) offers the first two years of the bachelors degree in engineering program with a new and innovative, project-based curriculum that integrates engineering, math, and science. After completing the BEP curriculum students then continue at UMaine to earn degrees in civil, mechanical, electrical or computer engineering, or may transfer to USM. More information about the BEP program may be found at: www.umaine.edu/brunswickengineering.
SMCC Pre-Engineering is a unique two-year pre-engineering associates degree program that provides students with an accessible and affordable start to their engineering studies and prepares them to transfer to any of the engineering and engineering technology programs at UMaine, or the University of Southern Maine (USM). More information about the SMCC Pre-Engineering program can be found at: www.smccme.edu/pre-engineering.
Which program is right for me?
The SMCC pre-engineering program is well-suited to students who:
• Are seeking a flexible and affordable entry point to engineering studies
• Want or need additional preparation in Math and Science
UMaine Brunswick Engineering Program (BEP) is best suited to students who:
• Want to learn math and science integrated with their engineering courses
• Meet the entrance requirements for UMaine’s College of Engineering
• Are able to take a minimum of 9 to 13 credits each semester

On October 11, the Midcoast UMaine Alumni Chapter held a Harvest Festival at the Maine Advanced Engineering Center. Alumni, Friends, and members of both SMCC and UMaine were in attendance to talk about each program. Students from the Brunswick Engineering Program were there to talk with people about the program and how they are doing so far. It was a well attended event that gave a lot of people information about the new pathways to engineering that now exist here in Maine.
