About BBR

BBR was founded in 2006 by Ryan Foley, a sixth-year Mechanical Engineering student with the aim to help mentor robotics teams. He wanted to show student’s the “fun part” of engineering, that it is not just calculations. All students should be involved in some activity that gives them hands-on experience. BBR provides this opportunity to all of its members.

As the club grew, so did the involvement of BBR in general. Increasing numbers of club members brought more and more project ideas that the club focused on. The first project was the tshirt launcher which took the club from September 2007 to January 30, 2010 to design, get funding, and finish building. Various projects such as a DemoBox, Micromouse, BlueBeast, combat robots, and sponsoring FIRST Robotics teams.

When BBR is present at the President’s Dinner or the Engineering Expo, students that show interest in joining almost always involves a common question or statement asking if they can still join even if they have no previous experience or knowledge about robotics. You don’t have to know anything about it to become involved with it, you don’t even need to be an engineering major.

Black Bear Robotics is always looking for new and dedicated members with fresh ideas and skills.
