UM Department of Art students and recent graduates spent six weeks this summer working with eight sculptors from South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Holland, New Zealand and Maine to create large scale stone sculpture out of Maine granite. These contemporary art works were created for the cities of Orono, Old Town and Bangor as well as for the University of Maine, the University of Maine Foundation, Husson University and Acadia Hospital. Some of these students and alums are pictured here.

In addition, on Saturday mornings, young students from around the area were given the opportunity to learn the processes involved in stone carving, creating small scale, individual works of their own.
