ARI Post- Docs, and Doctoral Candidates - Kevin Neves
Kevin Neves, Doctoral Candidate
Kevin is a Ph.D candidate in Marine Biology working with Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua). Will be investigating the potential causes of cataracts in juvenile and grow-out phases in commercial scale production.
Currently, cataracts are one of the most significant health issues facing many species of aquacultured fish worldwide. Though recognized for many years, the exact causative agent responsible for cataract formation has yet to be determined. Many suggestions and theories exist, two of the more plausible factors are UV light and carbon dioxide in the water. I will be investigating the effects of these on cataract formation in juvenile Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua), a potential aquaculture species in Maine and Canada.
