Dr. Nonni Daly has led an interesting career with her primary emphasis on educational publishing, as an editor, managing editor and ultimately president of the educational division of Harcourt Brace Jovanovich Publishers in New York (1969-1983)
Since retiring from publishing and moving back to Maine, Nonni has spent most of her time volunteering in different capacities at UM – athletics and alumni work and academics. For one brief period (1991-1994) she was Assistant Commissioner of Hockey East, the league in which UM competes.
Nonni has been involved in harness racing for a dozen years in everything from grooming a horse in Sire Stakes Racing to owning a few who raced. Her involvement in the industry has helped “get the word out” about the UMaine program and fostered some donations of horses to our herd. She has been involved in the UM Equine Program for about eight years.
Dr. Daly teaches the following courses:
She co-teaches, with Dr. Robert Causey, Training the Standardbred Horse (AVS 393), and has held a faculty appointment for the past five years.
Student involvement in Dr. Daly’s research projects:
She often serves as an advisor for Senior Projects (AVS 401-402) and supervises Internships through AVS 197.
She has, in the past, advised the Equestrian Team and the Drill Team and was once responsible for event planning and management at the Witter Center.
Here are some other details about Dr. Daly:
Nonni currently own two Standardbred horses – one (retired) is now a dressage and eventing horse and the other, recently injured, is being placed for healing and whatever comes next. Nonni has also owned one pacing mare who was part of the UMare Herd and who is now owned by one of our former students.
