Assistive technology (AT) is defined as any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities. (Assistive Technology Act of 1998).
Maine Resources
Maine CITE Program is Maine Department of Education’s statewide organization designed to help make assistive and universally designed technology more available to Maine children and adults who need them.
The Technical Exploration Center (TEC) is an assistive technology program that lends equipment, and provides evaluations, resource materials, technical assistance and AT related training.

The Center for Assistive Technology and Environmental Access provides resources and information about assistive and universally designed technologies in real world environments.
