Home - Diversifying the Faculty at the University of Maine

Provost editedThe Advance Initiative benefits UMaine campus-wide. The grant is directed at the retention and advancement of women faculty in STEM and Social-Behavioral Sciences, but advancement toward this goal benefits all UMaine faculty. Specific ADVANCE initiatives such as the Professional Development Grant programs, leadership and mentoring programs, and professional development activities benefit all regardless of gender. The University of Maine understands and embraces the importance of diversifying our faculty to enrich the larger university community. With support of the grant, the UMaine community has reviewed and improved hiring, mentoring, peer-reveiw, and promotion and tenure processes.

Dr. Jeff Hecker is the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, and serves as the Principal Investigator for the ADVANCE project at UMaine, and as the chair of the internal advisory board, the ADVANCE Initiatives Council (AIC).
