Goat - Kids 4 Kids Program
The Boer Goat Breeders of Maine would like you to be one of the first to apply for our 4th Annual KIDS 4 KIDS program. This program was designed with the intention of helping generate more interest in Boer goats among the youth in our state. There are youngsters throughout the state who have shown interest in owning a Boer goat but have been unable to purchase one for one reason or another. This will be the first year that we will have goats being donated back to the program from our first year recipients’. The number of selected youth to receive goats will be determined by the number of goats donated. The recipients will be chosen by a combination of the club’s Board of Directors and the breeders who donate a goat.
Applicants must be at least 9 years old and under 19 years old.
The applicants will need to have adequate shelter, (barn, garage, shed, or something to use for shelter) for the animal. Applicants should be able to provide anything that the goat may need such as grain, hay, water, and a veterinarian if needed.
The recipient is required to breed the animal when she reaches breeding age. Several of our breeders are willing to help you with this at no charge. The recipient has to agree to donate the first doe kid back into the program to be awarded to another child.
Recipients also have to agree to participate in at least one of the four scheduled sanctioned Boer goat shows in Maine during the 2010 season. There are several club members willing to help you with transportation if needed.
Once these obligations are met the goat is entirely yours.
Applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2010 and sent to:
