Maine 4-H Days - 2013 Maine 4-H Days Rabbit Program

This is your opportunity to learn all about keeping and showing rabbits as your 4-H project. Youth may bring their own rabbits in a secure rabbit carrier; maximum of three rabbits per child, however, you do not need a rabbit to participate. There is plenty to learn for the family that is thinking rabbits will make a good project for them.
Saturday – session 1 or 4 – for youth ages 9 & up
Learn all about caring for a rabbit: learn about housing for rabbits, feeding, grooming, and the time it takes to keep rabbits. We will cover parts of the rabbit, cutting toenails, preventing sore hocks, and take a look at the different breeds suitable for 4-H projects.
Rabbit Selection: Which is the Right Rabbit for Me?
Saturday – session 2 – for youth ages 9 & up
Different breeds will be available, and we will discuss the different traits and temperaments of each breed. You will be able to see and hold the different breeds to help you make a decision on which breed is right for your unique situation. A list of rabbit breeders in Maine and the breeds they raise will be available.
Saturday – session 3 – for youth ages 9 & up
Learn all about 4-H Rabbit Showmanship. Learn how to present your rabbit to the judge, how to groom your rabbit before the show, and how to pose your breed on the table. Know the major disqualifications. Learn how to show the teeth, nails, and sex of your rabbit.
