State 4-H Dairy Program Dates

Please hold the following dates for your participation in the State 4-H Dairy Programs:

•       Quiz Bowl Tryout– Tryouts for the Dairy Quiz Bowl Team is Sunday, February 17, at the Farm Bureau office in Augusta. Quiz Bowl will start at 1:00 pm and finish up before 4:00 pm. Open to all 4-H Dairy project members. Snow date is the following day, Monday, February 18. Snow cancellation will be determined the evening before. Call 581-3872 for a message announcing the cancellation of Quiz Bowl if there is a storm.
•       Dairy judging – April 13, Saturday, time and location to be announced. Open to all 4-H Dairy project members.
•       Intent to Participate Form due May 1, 2013 for 4-H Dairy Team to Eastern States
•       Fitting Competition – July 20, 5:00 pm at the Windsor Fairgrounds
•       Maine State 4-H Dairy Show – July 21, 9:00 am at the Windsor Fairgrounds. The new dairy packet will be posted in February.

2012 4-H Dairy Judging Contest

The 2012 4-H Dairy Judging Contest will take place on Saturday, April 14th. Registration will start at 9:00 AM with the judging to begin at 9:30.

We will meet at the farm where Trudy Graffam is keeping her Ayrshire cattle. The farm is located at the intersection of Route 202 and the Falmouth Road in Windham. Directions to the farm:

  1. Upon exiting the I-95 exit in Gray turn left (West) onto ME-115 W/ME-26A N/ME-4 S/US-202 W/W Gray Rd and drive 3.6 miles.
  2. Turn left (South) onto ME-4 S/US-202 W/Gray Rd and drive 1.9 miles.
  3. The farm is located on the corner Where Falmouth Road crosses US-202.

After judging the Ayrshires at approximately 10:30 AM we will travel to Alan O’Brien’s farm in Gray to judge Jerseys.

At Noon we will then travel to Pineland Farms in New Gloucester to judge Holsteins and give oral reasons.

Awards will be announced 2:30-3:00 PM

We will travel in a group to the second and third farms so no directions will be necessary.

Please bring a lunch.
