Maine 4-H Days will take place June 20 – 22, 2014 at the Windsor Fairgrounds, and the registration materials are available online. As always, workshops are assigned on a first come, first serve basis, so be sure to register early. If you do not have online access, please contact your local county office for paper copies of the forms. If you register prior to the June 2nd early registration deadline, the cost is $5 per person, with a maximum of $15 per family.  If you register after the deadline, the price increases to $7 per person, with a maximum of $20 per family.

We are in need of volunteers willing to help with all aspects of the event.  Last year, Maine 4-H Days brought almost 400 individuals to the Windsor Fairgrounds, and we are preparing for even greater numbers for 2014. Volunteers are needed for: presenter assistance, office/registration help, being crafty in the Creativity Area, set-up, cleanup, and more.  We request that one member of each group sign up for a minimum of one volunteer shift.

Along with many of your favorite returning workshops (Archery, Dog Camp, Field Skills for the Forest, Cheese Making, Lego® Robotics, etc.), there are a ton of awesome new workshops this year: Make Your Own Hula Hoop, Line Dancing, and so much more! All of the workshops, and their descriptions, are posted at: http://umaine.edu/4h/youth/4-h-events/maine-4-h-days/.  As workshops fill up, the forms available online will note any workshops that are “full” on the registration forms.

If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, please contact Jessy Brainerd at jessica.brainerd@maine.edu or 207.581.3877.

4-H National Headquarters and National 4-H Council are pleased to reveal the National Science Experiment for the 2013 4-H National Youth Science Day. 4-H Maps & Apps will introduce youth to the power of geospatial technologies and their unique ability to help us understand and improve our communities.

Developed by Colorado State University Extension, this exciting activity will engage young people in ways to improve our environment with the help of geographic information systems (GIS) and global positioning systems (GPS).

The experiment will test the ability of young people to:

  • Use geospatial skills to create the ideal neighborhood park
  • Become a community planner by using maps and layers to investigate and solve real-world problems, and
  • Contribute data and their community to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) The National Map through The National Map Corps project.

Save the Date!

This annual youth science event will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, and will bring 4-H’ers together from all around the nation to complete this single, innovative activity.

Participation in 4-H National Youth Science Day is meant to help spark an early passion for STEM education and to encourage young people to consider these paths of study and future careers.

To download the 2013 National Science Experiment Youth and Facilitator Guides as well as other key resources, visit the 4-H National Youth Science Day website.

Brooks 4th of July – Share Your 4-H Stories

Wednesday, June 26th, 2013
Print Friendly

Wanted! 4-H alumni to come tell your 4-H stories at the Brooks 4th of July celebration. Story telling is located over at the Brooks fairground shortly after the parade is over.

Participants can bring photos, and samples of projects past or present. Let’s try to go back in time as far as we can.

If you know of a 4-H alum (a former 4-H member, 4-H club leader / volunteer), call them on the phone and invite them to come to the Brooks 4th of July Celebration.

If a 4-H alum cannot attend on July 4th, ask them if a 4-H member and volunteer can set up an interview with them at a more convenient time.

We know family schedules are busy. If you have an hour or two of free time, please come join us on the 4th. It would be great if 4-H members, volunteers and alumni would RSVP by contacting the Waldo County 4-H Staff.

Thank you for your consideration.

Come join us!

Let’s enjoy listening and capturing our wonderful Waldo County’s 4-H stories.
